When it come to resistance training, it's very important to make sure that you have the necessary fuel in order to fill the glycogen tanks, which will keep your muscles ready to work at full bore.

Fueling up with the “right stuff” will also help to give you the extra focus and the drive that you need, to take your workout intensity into the stratosphere. Many people believe that they can get away with high intensity weight training on an empty stomach and this just isn't smart.

Yeah, if you're training cardio, first thing in the morning, the consensus say's, train on empty, but this doesn't hold true and just isn't safe when it comes to training with weights...Especially if you're training heavy - The last thing you need is to lose concentration during an exercise like a heavy set of squats; you lose concentration, because your head is fuzzy from lack of proper fuel and that could easily become your very last training session, as poor form can easily lead to a devastating training injury!

For a pre-workout it is good to include complex carbohydrates, so you will have the energy and fuel to optimally perform your high intensity physical fitness activities.  Make sure you choose carbohydrates that are healthy and not filled with fats or sugar.  Something like steel-cut oatmeal with maybe some Banana pieces and a few walnuts is a really great source of carbohydrates, which will totally fuel the tanks with some high octane.

Also, it has been found that coffee is something that you can drink in order to have some quick energy and get your blood pumping, but do not drink more than one cup because the caffeine will (could) begin to dehydrate you. I used to have a cup of coffee before each and every one of my workouts. It got me going and helped to keep me focused and full of energy. Now-a-day's, I’m using my own supplements, which are currently available in Europe. For more info on that, stay tuned :)
